Webhosting

It has always been my dream to have a web site for myself. It should have the latest technology. Something better than the other personal web sites of these actors! Of course, how many hits it would get is a totally different issue. I may be the only damned visitor to my site. Anyway, the real reason behind wanting to have a web site for myself is that, I strongly believe all of us who use the internet should know everything about it. I am curious to know what procedure people follow to get their site on the World Wide Web, to know who are all the people involved etc. I learnt that the site webhostinggeeks.com has all the information you need to have your own site. They have a list of webhosting companies. They simply hook you up with the best and the cheapest web host. They also have reviews about them which make it easier for people like me. So hope I get a good host for my web site! He he…

My dream

If you have read my previous posts, you would have known about my keen interest to undertake my post graduation studies abroad. I believe that graduate study will help direct me to reach my goal of being part of the research and development team of an organization in the technical sector. I am convinced that the field of communication will continue to revolutionize technology in Department of Electrical and Computer Science Engineering George Washington University years to come and it is my desire to be in the annals of communication history as one who played a vital role in enabling it to do so. I am sure that graduate study in the Department of Electrical and Computer Science Engineering at GWU will be the pathway to realize my aspiration. With excellent infrastructure and research facilities like the High Performance Computing Laboratory and its collaboration with Institutes such as the SACRI, GWU is the most well equipped place for me to realize my academic goals. It would be an honor to work with the Communications and Networks group under the expert guidance of Dr. Branimir Vojcic. I would also like to branch out and look at other fields of research such as Signal Processing which Dr. Kie B. Eom works with. After all, technological advancement is all about collaborative research and it is bound to bring in better results as the fundamental theory of existence is the concept of mutual dependence. I look forward to decades of productive work and scientific investigation in this area, helping to develop systems with less vulnerability and high cost-efficiency for industries, governments, and organizations. Further, It has also been my long time desire to teach the bright minds of the future which, given a chance, I would gladly accept and do justice to. I would be grateful if accorded an opportunity to pursue graduate education as a student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Science Engineering at GWU with financial assistance.

Good friend

I am dedicating this post to one of my best students. Anup has a very cheerful disposition and an excellent sense of humor, making working with him a very pleasant experience.  Anup’s management skills came to light when he actively participated in organizing a couple of events for the annual college symposium which inevitably led to him being elected as the president of the association of electronics and communication in the department, the following year.  His consistent demonstration of leadership  has caused his peers to select him as their representative, a role which he gladly accepted, and one in which he surpassed both his fellow students’ as well as the faculty’s expectations

I have been in the field of education for over seven years now, of which I have spent almost six years with the Department of Electronics and Communication at St. Peter’s Engineering College. Over the years, I have been involved with a number of students and without any hesitation, I will place Anup in the top 5% - 10% of those students.  Given the level of difficulty of the subject matter that these students learn, and the quality of his class-mates, it is a significant achievement.  I am confident that not only is he suited for graduate study but also that he will succeed in the same.  Besides his admission to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at George Washington University, I strongly recommend also that he be given full funding.

Farewell

Let me write about the farewell we organized for our seniors in this post. There are so many things to share with you all. Do not know where to start from! I had chosen the theme ‘Red carpet’ for the party. Most of them were quite apprehensive while I was confident of the theme. I had chosen this theme because not all of us would become celebrities and get an opportunity to walk on a red carpet formally. After deciding on the theme the first job to be done was to finalize the date, time, gift and food for the party.

It is not a joke to organize a party for about 400 people which includes the heads of the departments etc. Believe me I had absolutely no outsider to help me with this task. People who worked for the farewell were mostly my friends. In a way the lack of cooperation from others helped us get the full credit of putting up a decent show! We did not have to share the good name with anybody else. But I would say that the three days before the farewell were the most stressful days of my life until now. I had to organize the events to entertain seniors as well. I wanted to run away somewhere! But I told myself this was probably not even half of the amount of stress I would have to go through in my grown up life later on!

I made a cute 11 and a half minute movie on friends and college. At the end of it all I made them take an oath that read as follows ‘We the final year students of Stella Maris do solemnly pledge that we will stay in touch with each other, come what may. We will call each other even if we have low credit and make the best use of modern technology available to keep in touch’. This was the highlight of the event. Well, I do not know how many of them actually liked the farewell. I would say that if just one person’s full effort could make this a great show, it would have been the best if there was more participation and team effort!

Bluetooth technology

In my mind, a milestone in the progress of wireless communication was reached when Bluetooth technology was included in mobile phones. Revolutionizing personal connectivity in addition to replacing the plethora of cables, Bluetooth technology was science at its best. I was curious to know how such progress was possible, and learnt that before I could even begin to comprehend how focused technology like Bluetooth functioned, I needed to learn the fundamentals related to not only the field of communication but also engineering in general. This realization prompted me to choose Electronics and Communication Engineering as the major for my undergraduate studies. In my undergraduate studies, I have been exposed to the fundamentals of the field of communication through courses such as “Signals and Systems,” “Digital Signal Processing,” and their associated hardware pedestals, and I have gained a strong conceptual understanding of the same. Over the past three and a half years, the areas of wireless communication/networks and communication theory/systems, in specific, have caught my attention because of their boundless applicability.

One of my good students

Let me write about one of my students in this post. This student I am going to talk about is extremely dedicated and suave in the way he conducts himself.  Anup is one of the best students in the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering in St. Peter’s Engineering College, where I am an Assistant Professor.

I was his faculty for courses titled “Digital Electronics” and “Electromagnetic Field Theory” during the year 2005-06 for two consecutive semesters, which included in-class learning and laboratory work.  I found him to be exceedingly intelligent and highly interactive both in the theory as well as the laboratory sessions.  His performance in class consistently exceeded expectations, and he demonstrated marked improvement with every passing day.  He is a self-motivated student who does not confine learning to what can be gathered from texts. He has four publications to his name for which he won laurels by presenting them in fellow universities.  I also had the opportunity to administer Anup’s research and analysis ability as his final year project supervisor.  I noticed his keen ability to monitor even the minutest of detail in his work which ultimately resulted in his project being chosen among the top three in the department.
